What’s this, like five or six dead 99%-ers now? Yesterday’s body count included one each in Oakland and Burlington, and now another in Salt Lake City, which I didn’t even know was occupied. This guy was drinking heavily or something. Police say the death isn’t suspicious and was mostly peaceful.
Following the discovery of a dead man Friday morning in Pioneer Park, Salt Lake police have ordered all Occupy Salt Lake City protestors to leave the park.
“We can no longer have individuals camping on our streets,” Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank said Friday.
Protestors have until sunset on Saturday to move out of the park, where they have held camp for weeks, and the city’s streets. If not, they face arrest.
A second encampment is located at the Gallivan Center near Main Street and 200 South. Protesters there have also been ordered to leave.
The announcement came after police officers were called to the park around 10 a.m. on reports of a death. An unidentified male was found deceased in a tent. The death does not appear to be suspicious.
It appears as though the death may have been the result of both carbon monoxide poisoning and a drug overdose, police said.
