Figures: Portland “Occupiers” Leave at Least $50K Damage to Parks

Tea partiers would go about meticulously cleaning up after themselves during and after their entirely peaceful gatherings. These mostly peaceful animals leave a trail of disaster, of course.

Aren’t these the same types who lecture us about the environment?

The latest estimate of the damage to the downtown parks that were home to Occupy Portland for five weeks is $50,000.

Bob Downing, maintenance supervisor for the city Parks and Recreation Department, said Monday the estimate is based on his preliminary assessment of the damage to Chapman and Lownsdale squares. He said it may fluctuate as a more thorough review is conducted.

“It’ll take quite a bit of effort to get it back to its previous state,” said Downing, who is leading the city’s assesment of the damage.

The effort will require a host of structural repairs, graffiti removal and landscaping.

Soil will need to be removed in the area used as a kitchen because grease spills have rendered the soil unusable. The majority of both parks will need to be re-sodded and plant damage is extensive.

“Turf conditions are non-existent,” Downing said. Horticulturists and arboriculturists will make more detailed assessments in the coming week.

What pathetic slobs.

At this point “not entirely violent” seems more appropriate than “mostly peaceful.”
